Crewel Embroidery is surface embroidery done with wool threads. Today they substitute wool with acrylic threads and use additional cotton and silk threads still call it crewel work.

I have got two crewel kits as presents for Christmas. I am not going to complete them because I am not a fun of those designs. But I like the yarn. I might try to stitch a sheep with it.
